Lead by John Cato, Software Design & Build Ltd
to be held in Bristol
A two day workshop on effective website design by taking a user
centred approach.
Pre-requisites:
An interest in how to do excellent design and a commitment to
working 100% during the day towards exploring and understanding
and sharing the issues.
Outline:
Design is the process of making visions come true. Web Site
Design makes the business visible to its customers and must
satisfy the business and the customer needs and visions.
This workshop will provide you with a framework for design
thinking and a co-operative environment to learn how to do good
design. We will form small working groups to do the work.
In essence, there are three stages to excellent design:
Discovery
Creation
Use
We will examine the foundations of excellent design in the
Discovery stage - the Organisation, the Customer, the Function
and the Information.
Having established the foundations we will become involved in
Creation - Web Site Structure, Web Site Coherence, Interaction
Design, and Presentation Design, and the actual creation of a Web
Site in HTML.
Then, in recognition of the potential mismatch between the
designers models (yours) and the user's reality; we enter the Use
stage - studying usability and objective measurement of success,
discussing what works and what doesn't about the sites we have
created.
We will have appropriate hardware and software to create web
sites and explore the issues together throughout the day. We may
also take the time to examine live sites to see how they measure
up.
Knowledge of HTML would be handy but is not essential, we only
need one 'expert' in each working group.
