About John Cato

We are recognised for our work on design and usability on multimedia kiosks, web sites and graphical user interfaces and telephone systems. We were involved in the design and usability of the award winning Nationwide Building Society project, Interact and usability work on their web site.

I have been involved in the software business since 1973 in a variety of roles for major blue chip companies. I am actively involved in many professional bodies, particularly the British Computer Society HCI SIG, the OOPS SIG and BCS Bristol Branch activities.

I was invited to give a presentation on User Interface Design at Object Expo 97 in London and I was the invited Industry Day Chair at the Human Computer Interaction 97 conference. I was one of the international select few who took part in the Narrative and Hypermedia workshop in Brighton earlier this year.

I provide consultancy on design and usability evaluation and also run multi disciplinary workshops on 'Design for Use'. My interest lies with excellence in design, so as to empower the individual at work; particularly interaction design, multimedia systems design, visual design, usability evaluation as design and object oriented design.

I am always looking for practical ideas that may help with design strategies of an interactive system. I am fascinated by anything that can give me efficient leverage for excellent design that works in a commercial or industrial environment.
